INSPIRATION spotlight

hello, everyone:

turns out, when it's migraine season in FL, every other day is waaaaaay too ambitious a schedule. oh well.

it is time for a BRAND NEW, soon to be regular feature: the INSPIRATION SPOTLIGHT!!!

*drumroll, excited band music, trumpet blasts from afar*

as some of you may know and the rest of you are about to figure out, i spend a lot of time in bed. i have a spine made of tissue paper (oh the wonders of misspent youth), so i sit, then lie down, then sit, then lie down, then sit. . .etc. i love both my heating pad - and Youtube. Through the wonders of electronic vlogs, i've become a MUCH better cardmaker. Over on my FB page, i mentioned (briefly) some of the artists/vloggers who have influenced/do still influence my work. my style is all my own, but these people show me new ways of doing things, have answered questions, design new card layouts (as in, ways to fold paper to make a card design), are experts in techniques such as watercolor or pencil. they inspire my creative mojo and helped me get organized in my own space. they've encouraged me (without knowing it) to take risks.

they remind me on a regular basis that it's PAPER, not gold, i'm playing with and if i don't like it, i can throw it away and start again. it doesn't have to be perfect; it has to be fun and loving.

lessons in life, that.

So the first artist i want to talk about is Samantha Clayton of Mixed Up Craft. (www.mixedupcraft.com) Sam is a mixed media artist from the UK, currently living in China with her husband. She not only makes cards, but she also makes boxes, bags, treat containers, storage things, albums, scrapbooking layouts - whatever takes her fancy, really. Perhaps it's because she's a ginger, maybe it's because of her teaching methods, or it's most likely just because she seems to be an incredibly caring individual, and she is currently my favorite. i have several of her card styles that have become favorites of mine.

*another drumroll sounds in the distance*
IT'S A PICTURE!!!! ON MY BLOG!!!! TADA!!!!
Sam calls this a Large Double Zig Zag Fold card, with a belly band (she's very fond of the belly band), When you take off the band in the middle (the balloon-holding bear is on it, the card unfolds into this:

Pretty cool, huh?? this one was my husband's birthday card. i had made him a different one, then spent aaaaaaaaallll day on this, because, well, that. who could resist giving someone that, when you can?? Now, i've been making them for friends and relations in all kinds of configurations, although a bit shorter. i've taken off the last 3 sections on each side, and decorated the belly band in the other direction.

the card of the left is another Sam card, an Arrow Fold card. i make a lot of those as well. The card on the right is a Single Zig Zag Card, ala Cindyellen. The insides look like this:
All the embellishments are colored with Prismacolor Premier pencils. Most are My Favorite Things stamp sets, or Hero Arts. Stamps have really unleashed my Inner Artist, since i don't feel confined by my lack of ability to draw. Maybe someday i will take drawing lessons, but that is not now at Honeywell (there, I'm dating myself).

And enough growing and changing for today. Again, Thank you Sam, for your inspiration.

Peace, Love, Creativity,
Cindyellen
